Preparing your home for extreme cold

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

Oki, with colder weather coming it is a good time to go over some basic winter cold weather preparation tips to ensure you and your family help keep your home in tip top shape. The Red Cross provides some helpful tips here. Here are some additional tips and resources:

  • Ensure windows and doors have a good seal. If cold air is leaking inside the home, call us at 403 734 5200 and ask someone to come out the seal them.

  • If your furnace stops working, check outside to see that the air intake is not plugged with now. Brush off the snow, and if the furnace does not start working please give us a call.

  • On extreme cold days, you can keep a cabinet door open under the sinks to prevent pipes from freezing.

  • If your hot water or furnace stop working, call us immediately (403 734 5200 during the day, or 403 734 3815 after hours). We can have an emergency heater delivered to you, if needed.

Stay safe.

We are also having a housing open house on February 1st at SRDL. We would love to see you there, so please let us know if you are coming by signing up on our events page.
